“Rare in Action: Caring is Acting”

No âmbito da assinalação do World Rare Disease Day, a Associação Atlântica de Apoio aos Doentes de Machado-Joseph (AAADMJ), in partnership with the University of the Azores, will promote the commemorative event “Rare in Action: Caring is Acting”, to be held on February 28, 28 de fevereiro 2026, between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.,in Sala de Ginástica do Pavilhão Municipal Carlos Silveira.

Aimed at the entire population, this initiative's main objective is to inform and raise awareness in the community about Machado-Joseph Disease, reinforcing the importance of knowledge, solidarity, and collective action in the face of rare diseases. The event will provide information about the services provided by AAADMJ, as well as the scientific research carried out in relation to this disease, highlighting the advances and challenges that mark the path of intervention and support for affected individuals and their families.

At the same time, the following will be promoted free health screenings, emphasizing the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, and the adoption of healthy lifestyles as fundamental pillars for a more informed and aware society.

With the launch of “Rare in Action: Caring is Acting,” AAADMJ reaffirms its commitment to promoting awareness, supporting people with Machado-Joseph disease, and mobilizing the community around rare diseases. Because caring is, in fact, acting, we invite everyone to participate and join this cause, contributing to a more inclusive, supportive, and informed society.
